Hämelschenburg Castle was built between 1588 and 1618. It belongs to the Weser Renaissance. Southern wing of the Italian Renaissance style has distinctive rich ornaments. A couple Jürgen von Klenke and Anna von Holle and their 14 children used to live in the castle. Thanks to the courage of this extraordinary family, the architectural complex was not destroyed during the Thirty Years War (1618-1648). Numerous halls, furniture, paintings, porcelain and glass as well as a collection of armours tells about the life of the Renaissance and Baroque aristocrats. One third of the castle is open to visitors, other parts are privately owned.

Near the castle lives a curious cat that is trying to catch the big fish in the pond. Good luck to him =)

Getting there: There is a bus from Bad Pyrmont and Hamelin that stops near the castle, but its schedule is depressing (use the bahn.de website to find the schedule). The nearest railway station is Emmerthal, which you can reach by regional train from Hannover. There's about 4 kilometers from the station to the castle, we went on foot and walked about 40 minutes in one direction.
