As you can guess from the name, there was originally a shipyard of one of the shipbuilding companies at this location. After it was closed in 1984, the buildings were taken over by squatters, and in the early 2000s they were transferred to various companies such as Greenpeace, Red Bull, MTV, Viacom and others. Right now the area is home to IJhallen, the largest flea market in Europe. There are also festivals, lots of street art, various galleries and restaurants.booking.com ) is a nice designer hotel, but quite expensive. It is much more expensive than other unique 1-2 room hotels we have visited, for example in Bologna or Rotterdam .
