We decided to visit Hann. Münden after we had found the town on Google Maps. It looks amazing from above. See for yourself: orange half-timbered roofs (one of the best in Germany), mountains, river and many islands. The town was not affected by air strikes during the war and about 700 old half-timbered houses were preserved.

The name of the town is very interesting. To distinguish it from Minden, which is also located on the Weser river, prefix "Hannoversch" was added. And later, to be able to place the long title on the tickets, it was cut to Hann. Münden.

From all sides the city is surrounded by mountains. On two of them there are excellent viewpoints. One - near this tower.

Tillyschanze, an observation tower built from 1881 to 1885 by the citizens to remember the siege of the town by Count Tilly in 1626.

You can climb there by foot or drive at first by car and then continue on foot. Park somewhere here N 51 24.875 E 9 38.554 near the hotel Berghotel Eberburg. Then go on foot, the trail starts behind the hotel.

The second place is on the other mountain, in the park Weserliedanlage. It is easier to get there from the center of the city: Alte Werrabrücke bridge then into the tunnel and along Eichenweg Street to the end, there will be an observation deck.

The town has an interesting place where three big rivers join together: Fulda and Werra join to form Weser. Popular cycling route along the Weser river starts here. Local buses even carry special trailers for bikes.

If you are travelling by car, then there is no point in spending the night in Hann-Münden itself. In a minute drive there is a good hotel with a large parking - Trans World Hotel Freizeit Auefeld (booking.com).

Getting there: By Cantus train from Göttingen or Cassel.

My family comes from this town. Kulla and Weiland were the names so long ago. Anyone know anything about them?
