Cape Formentor

Cape Formentor is perhaps the most interesting place in Mallorca, but also the most inaccessible. You can get to the lighthouse only by car or with a tour. We saw a lot of cyclists, but keep in mind that there are 18 kilometers in one direction, constant ascents and descents and no dedicated bike paths.


At the entrance to the cape, there is at first a long climb, which ends with the main viewpoint Mirador Es Colomer (N 39 55.736 E 3 06.629).


From here, the road starts also up to the Albercutx Watchtower.

Next is the descent to Formentor beach with several hotels and restaurants. There is also a large parking lot (N 39 55.771 E 3 08.042).


This is the last point that can be reached by public transport (bus 353). Do not pay attention to the fact that the beach is in seaweed; in summer it is cleaned.


This is a filming location of a movie Me Before You (2016).




From here we also went to this location N 39 56.225 E 3 07.805. This is a viewpoint on the other side of the island and you can reach it only on foot from the beach parking. At first we walked along the road, then through the forest. The trailt can be found on this map, lookout is marked there as Cuina del Moro.






And we went there because of the filming location of Cloud Atlas (2012). The stone Tom Hanks sat on is pretty easy to find.




Further, from the beach to the lighthouse, the situation with parking is pretty sad. There are several lookouts along the road, we stopped here N 39 57.250 E 3 11.377. This place offers a nice view of the cape and this is also a filming location of Evil under the Sun (1982).


Next to this lookout there is also the wild beach of Cala Figuera, parking is here N 39 56.953 E 3 10.234.

The endpoint is Formentor Lighthouse where even in December, we could barely find a parking place in the middle of the day. There is a small cafe near the lighthouse.






Such a photo you can take from the nearest hill.


Though to reach the top of the hill you have to climb a rocky surface. We did otherwise, here N 39 57.392 E 3 12.624 there is a place for 1-2 cars (google street view), there we parked the car and went uphill. It has a very difficult surface, you need good shoes, so this place is not for everyone. But the view is gorgeous.
