The Durmitor National Park is one of the jewels of Montenegro. It includes the Durmitor massif, the Komarnica plateau, a dozen glacial lakes and the Tara river canyon. Since 1980, the park was declared a World Heritage Site. The highest point in the park is mount Bobotov Kuk (2,522 meters). If you want to visit this national park, you have to go to Zabljak.
What to do in the Durmitor National Park:
- Skiing in the winter, there are lifts and infrastructure (map)
- Within the walking distance of the town lies the glacial Black Lake
- 5 km to cableway to mount Savin Kuk
- 20 km to the Durdevica Tara bridge
- 6 km to the Tara river canyon, the second highest in the world (1,300 m)
- Rafting on the Tara is possible in the season
- You can visit the 100 m long Ice Cave (Ledena Pecina)
- There are a lot of hiking trails, you can buy the map at the tourist information center in Zabljak for 5 euros. The trails are marked.
In addition to these attractions, we also went the plateau and drove from Zabljak to the Piva Lake. The plateau is gorgeous, especially on a sunny day. There's only one small settlement along the way, Trsa. The road surface is good.
The Piva Lake is also a kind of attraction, it looks amazing.
