The park was named after its founder, the Emilie and Willy Spahn family, who purchased the 42,000-square-meter site in 1938. The quarry was closed at that time due to the world economic crisis. The couple planted an orchard on the terraces of the limestone quarry, with apple, pear, cherry and plum trees in addition to the usual deciduous trees. Fruit juices and lemonade were produced in the former oven building. In 1996, after the death of the couple, the city inherited the territory and began the reconstruction of the park.
