Smarties wind turbine (Smarties am Turm)

There is an unusual wind turbine near Hannover. It is remarkable because it is decorated with lights in the style of children's candy. There is almost no information about it on the internet, but it can be seen from the A7 motorway. The dots light up when the windmill is spinning, and the harder it spins, the more they glow.

The wind turbine was built for the world exhibition EXPO 2000, it provides electricity for 3,000 households. In 2024 there was a pin with the wind turbine on google.maps, and reviews, but now it has disappeared. We don't know the reason, maybe it is not working anymore, take this fact into account.




Getting there: you can park in the residential area along the road 52.295111, 9.917222, then walk across the fields, half the way there is tarmac.
