Despite the fact that it is Swedish city, Malmo is located just 20 kilometers from Copenhagen and is a former Danish province. Therefore, ties with the western neighbor is much stronger than with Stockholm. Malmo has its own small airport, mainly used by low cost airplanes. A huge Copenhagen Airport is located nearby and the residents mostly use it. Until 2000 the city was located on the outskirts of the cultural and social life of Sweden. With the opening of Öresund Bridge it became an important center. In 2013 here was held Eurovision.
Walked through the Kungsparken park. Very nice place, with a lot of rabbits.
One of them is interested in art :)
The park has a castle museum (1437). At first we decided that it is a prison and soon found that it really served as a prison.
And a mill
Malmo has quite a few old buildings, mostly new buildings. As in any large Scandinavian city there is an area with modern architecture. Here it is the former port territory of the West Harbor (Västra hamnen) with the Turning Torso skyscraper.
Every self-respecting city must have its own architectural symbols. Thanks to this building some people learned about Malmo on the Internet. Others heard about the city in the "The Bridge" TV series.
There is a huge beach near the Western Harbor where we walked in the evening.
The building was built in 2005 and is located in the most expensive area of the city. This is the highest residential building in Scandinavia.
There are not so many cities in Europe with a huge empty space in the very center.
In the area where the skyscraper was built are located mostly restaurants and public spaces, where the Swedes spend their evenings and watch the sunset. Malmö is a great place to explore modern urban architecture and public spaces.
In general Malmo left a purely positive impression. And I forgot to add - there are no tourists here at all!
Getting there: From Copenhagen Airport by bus or train, just 20 minutes to go. If you arrived at Malmö Sturup Airport, then find the bus schedule here https://www.flygbussarna.se/ru. Malmo is a major railway junction with dozens of daily trains to Stockholm (5 hours) and Copenhagen (25 minutes).
