Beautiful ancient ruins not far from Seville. The city was founded in 206 BC by the Roman commander Publius Cornelius Scipio after his victory over the Carthaginians. Italica became the first Roman settlement on the Iberian Peninsula and played a huge role in the history of the region.

The city is particularly famous for being the birthplace of two Roman emperors, Trajan and Hadrian. The latter actively supported the development of Italica and turned it into a model Roman city, adorned with marble buildings, villas and thermal baths.

It was home to one of the largest amphitheatres in the Roman Empire, which could seat around 25,000 spectators. Its massive ruins, mosaics in residential buildings and fragments of public buildings have survived to this day.

We did not visit the entire complex and only saw the amphitheatre. We came here because two interesting scenes from Game of Thrones (S07E07 and S08E06) were filmed in Italica. These scenes featured perhaps the largest number of the series' leading actors in one place. Moreover, the actors who did not appear in these scenes were still here for filming; they were invited to hide the nuances of the plot so that onlookers would not be able to guess who would die in the story.

Getting there: parking along the road near the museum 37.444000, -6.044056. There are helpers running around, so be careful, park yourself, and do not give them any money.
