Well-preserved medieval castle on a high cliff above the Dordogne River. During it's history, it took part in many battles. And at the end of the 12th century even belonged to the famous English king Richard the Lionheart.

The castle played a significant role during the Hundred Years War, as the border between the troops of France and England was along the Dordogne River. In this castle sat the French, and on the other side, in the castle Castelnau, the British. It can be seen in the distance, in the center of the next photo.

At the foot of the castle, on the banks of the river, is the village of Beynac-et-Cazenac. It is very small, you can eat in the restaurant and make a beautiful photo near the river. Parking is here N 44 50.395 E 1 08.470.

From the village you can go up to the castle (map), but if you are traveling by car, then this does not make sense, since there is also parking near the castle.
