Ferry on the Komani Lake

One of the most memorable experiences of Albania was a ferry trip over the Komani lake (from Koman to Fierze). In any case, this is one of the most beautiful places in the country. The ferry is the best way to get to the Kukes region in the north-east of the country. From Shkoder to Koman we drove about 45 minutes. The road was not very good in 2011.

The ferry goes once a day, it starts from Koman at 9:30 - 10:00 am. In the English-speaking Internet I found a tip: arrive early. In fact, the ferry can hold quite a lot of cars, so I don't think that it is fully loaded very often. In any case, we arrived there at 8:45 am and were the first in the queue. Before the tunnel that leads to the ferry, we were stopped by a police officer and had to wait for about 45 minutes for the cars that came by ferry from Fierze. So, do not worry if a police officer stops you in Koman.

The ride lasts about 2 hours and along the way you will see fabulous scenery. The lake is surrounded by mountains with the height up to 2 km.

How to get to Koman: The best option is by car. But in 2012 the car ferry didn't work! So before you go, please verify the information on the company's facebook page.
