Mykolaiv interests the tourists mostly because of its zoo; we have a separate article about it. The downtown is concentrated aroung the central Radyanska Street, the longest pedestrian street of Ukraine. There's also a beautiful waterfront in the city as it stands on the Pivdennyi Bug river. Mykolaiv is also famous because of its "Skazka" ("Fairy Tale") children's park. Unfortunately, we had no time to visit it.
There's a sculpture of a giant lotus flower on the waterfront. A beautiful and romantic staircase goes down from the flower. The staircase is decorated with lights shaped like flowers. There are also creative benches and trash bins here.
The most beautiful religious landmark of the city is the Roman Catholic Church of St. Joseph (1896). The church boasts a gift from Germany, a pipe organ with 28 registers.
There are also several blocks of old one- and two-floor buildings near the church.
Getting there: Either by night train from Kyiv or by a comfortable bus of the Gunsel carrier from the central bus station near the Demiyivska metro station.
