As you can see from the aerial photo, the main occupation here is agriculture and winemaking. The latter was developed two thousand years ago.
Here, in the photo, you can see the winery Bodega Contador.
If you are traveling from the north through the mountains, it makes sense to stop at the viewpoint Balcon De La Rioja (N 42 35.399 W 2 40.757), which offers a good view of almost the entire region.
The village of Cellorigo(N 42 37.634 W 2 59.960) is not of interest, but in the background we noticed very picturesque cliffs.
Village of San Vicente de la Sonsierra (N 42 33.609 W 2 45.514) can be visited, here is a picturesque church and a castle on a hill.
We stopped to try the local cuisine, chose a restaurant La Taberna de Ollauri (N 42 32.550 W 2 49.986).
I can’t say that we loved the cuisine of northern Spain. Not only here, but in general. The problem is that their main course is lamb chops, which is definitely not our food. Local soups are more or less normal and we liked boiled potatoes with sausages.
Getting there: the main city of the region is Logroño, it has a train station (renfe.com).
