Zaandam

A suburb of Amsterdam known for its unique colored buildings. All these buildings are located around the central station, so you can easily get off the train, walk around and continue your trip.

The city center has been reconstructed in its current form since 2003 as part of the Inverdan project. This is not a unique project, many cities are reconstructing dull centers in order to increase the tourist appeal. In this case, what is unique is exactly how it was done.

The buildings were either built, or reconstructed, in the modern Zaanse style. The best example is the large building that became the Inntel Hotels (booking.com). You will definitely not find a hotel like this anywhere else, its facade consists of 70 connected facades of typical houses of the region.

Apart from the interesting center, the rest of the streets in Zaandam are standard. But there is an interesting fact, the Gedempte Gracht canal, around which you will walk, was buried back in 1858. And for the Inverdan project, it was excavated again in 2011.
