Sail Amsterdam

Every five years, in August, Amsterdam held a unique event. In 1975 in honor of the 700th anniversary of the city was organized the parade of large ships. It's success led to the regular parades every 5 years.

During Sail Amsterdam the capital of the Netherlands attracts thousands of ships. In 2000 there were more than 8000! During a few days all of them go along the central channel and several million viewers watch from the waterfront.

The best photos can be done in the first and last day of the parade, when the big ships come to and from Amsterdam.


Many of big ships may be visited. In 2015 the greatest interest was aroused by Esmeralda and Götheborg.


Several viewing platforms are equipped for spectators.


























Getting there: The parade takes place a few hundred meters from Amsterdam Central Station.
