Aqaba is the southernmost city of Jordan, a seaport and resort located on the Red Sea. It is a free economic zone. Because of this, the city is separated from the rest of the country with a border.
The city is famous for the giant flag of the Arab revolution on the waterfront. The height of the flagpole is 136 meters, and the size of the flag cloth itself is 60x30 meters.
Unfortunately, there are not many places where you can walk. There is a small promenade and a park in the downtown, and in fact that's all. Souvenir shops can be found around the downtown.
There are beach hotels and free public beaches in the city. However, because of the port, it makes sense to pay attention to the Tala Bay Resort, located 15 kilometers to the south of the center of Aqaba.
We stayed at the Mövenpick Resort Tala Bay Aqaba (booking.com). Nearby there are several hotels and luxury apartments as well as small infrastructure. It is a great place to relax. You can move 500 meters away from the hotel and you'll be all alone on the beach. Tala Bay is just 15 kilometers away from Aqaba, so you can take a taxi or a shuttle bus.
There is a small coral reef near the hotels, but if you want to snorkel, do the following. Walk along the beach about 3 kilometers in the direction of Aqaba. You will find something like a public beach, and there's a large and beautiful reef nearby. You can take a taxi in Aqaba to get there.
Getting there: Regular bus service from Amman is provided by the companies JETT, Trust, and Alpha Daily Tours.
