Previously, the town was a fishing village, now it is 100% tourist oriented. Local people, of course, are engaged in fishing and winemaking, but all this is also for tourists.
Curiously, many computer game lovers don't know that Manarola was the prototype for the Dorado map in the popular game Overwatch.
During selecting the place for spending the night we decided to stop in Manarola, in the apartments of Casa Di Mezzo (booking.com). They are just behind the bell tower of the main historical sight of the town - the Church of St. Lawrence (Chiesa di San Lorenzo), founded in 1338. Thanks to this church, Manarola is the oldest town in the Cinque Terre.

Once again, pay attention to the fact that cars are prohibited in all the towns of Cinque Terre. You have to walk 400 meters from the parking lot to the apartments and 900 meters to the sea. Of course return way will be uphill.
In the guidebooks you can find information about the hiking trail to Riomaggiore - Via dell'Amore. Be careful and check information in the internet before the visit, as the trail is closed for few years.
To eat we recommend Aristide restaurant, which is located near the tunnel leading to the railway station.
Getting there: By train, which runs between La Spezia and Levanto, through the towns of Monterosso, Vernazza, Corniglia, Manarola and Riomaggiore. Find the schedule at http://www.trenitalia.com/tcom-en. You can come by car, but parking lot (N 44 06.538 E 9 44.004) is located outside the town and you have to walk 900 meters down to the sea.
