Westerheversand Lighthouse

The Westerheversand Lighthouse, built in 1908, is the most famous lighthouse in Germany and a symbol of the north of the country. Stands in the middle of the fields with absolutely nothing for a few kilometers around. Two identical houses are built near the lighthouse, in one of them there is a local registry office. The place is very unusual and worth a visit.


The area around the lighthouse is a national reserve, it is impossible to reach it by car. Park your car at these coordinates N 54 23.043 E 8 39.214. Next only on foot or by bicycle.


Since 2001 the tower can be visited. Buy tickets in the tourist office near the car park.


Getting there: better by car. There is a bus, but it's not the best option. Find a schedule on bahn.de, bus stop Leuchtturm, Westerhever.
