Benedictine monastery in Bavaria. Located in the very picturesque location on the Danube Bend. Founded in 617 by Irish or Scottish monks and is the oldest monastery in Bavaria. In 1050 one of the oldest breweries in the world was founded here.

Many times was changed and rebuilt. The central object of the monastery is the church of St. George (1716—1739).

Since the monastery stands on the banks of the Danube, floods are common here. On the wall, you can see notes with past floods. The latter were recently. In 1998-2008, work was carried out to protect the monastery from floods.

You can walk freely on the territory and on the coast. There is a historical museum and also you can visit other non-residential rooms. In general, the places are very beautiful, we recommend.

Getting there: parking N 48 53.574 E 11 49.398, next 900 meters on foot. It is possible to reach by boat from Kelcheim / Donau (N 48 54.927 E 11 52.188), find the schedule here http://schiffahrt-kelheim.de/fahrplan-donaudurchbruch/. Near the pier there is a bus stop Wöhrdplatz / Zentrum, Kelheim, use bahn.de.
