The city was founded in 774, when the imperial abbey of St. Boniface, one of the richest abbeys in medieval Germany, was founded. It is located in the very center and the city grew up around it. It is believed to be the birthplace of German Catholicism.
In front of the abbey is a large Cathedral Square (Domplatz), which makes the main cathedral (1704-1712) very photogenic.
Opposite the abbey there is a Palace park (Schlossgarten).
There are two other interesting historical structures in the park. This is the greenhouse (1721).
And the city palace (Stadtschloss, 1706-1714), the residence of the prince-bishops. The palace is now the seat of the city administration, but some rooms are open to tourists.
Getting there: we parked in the underground parking lot in the center 50.553607, 9.676408. There is a train station in Fulda, located right in the center.
