Eisenach is known first of all for the Wartburg Castle, which is located nearby, and due to which the town appeared. A great preacher and reformer Martin Luther spent his childhood in Eisenach. Johann Sebastian Bach was also born here. Their houses are currently museums.
There's no half-timbered downtown in Eisenach, only few buildings of this type. But near the Johannes Platz you can find the narrowest house in Germany.
Tourists come to the town from the train station through the gates of St. Nicholas. There is also the church of the same name, and a monument to Martin Luther.
The Market Square is surrounded by buildings of different styles and eras. The most beautiful of them is the Town Palace. Now it houses a tourist information office and a museum of Thuringia.
Find an ancient measure of length and a shameful ring near the Town Hall.
At the fountain in the center of the Market Square stands is a sculpture of the patron saint of the town, St. George. Nearby is the St. George Church.
