Bremerhaven

City of Bremerhaven is a port of Bremen. Together they form a separate and the smallest land in Germany. City is fairly new (founded in 1827) and located on the seafront, so almost all of the attractions are connected with the sea.

In 2009 in Bremerhaven was completed a large project to turn part of the port area into a tourist spot. As a result, appeared a new area of ??the city Harbour Worlds. Actually, this is the main reason to visit the Bremerhaven. Along the harbor stand ships of German Maritime Museum.

Submarine "Wilhelm Bauer" can be visited inside.




Various cars and port objects are left on the green grass and walking paths are laid between them.




Apart from a large port, there is also a harbor for yachts. The entrance is through the bridge which opens.


Embankments are very green and well maintained.








Went to port, there is quite a lot of interesting ships, although we do not know their purpose.






Port of Bremerhaven is the fourth largest in Europe


Recently, a small viewing platform of the containers was built in the port (on the map).


Returned to the promenade. The world's only remaining large commercial sailing ship, the barque "Seute Deern"

The city has a dominant building - Hotel Atlantic Sail City Hotel, which is similar to the famous Dubai Burj Al Arab.


It features a rooftop observation deck (timetable and prices). Tickets are bought from the machine, entrance and exit also automatic.


























There is a small "Zoo at the Sea" on the waterfront. Ticket price and timetable per months can be found here. The main specialization of the zoo are marine animals, but there are also rabbits, cougars and others. Come to the zoo about 10 am and you will be taken to a series of animals' feeding. Schedule of feedings you will receive together with the ticket. All  animals are in good shape, see for yourself.

Next interesting building is a Climate Center - Klimahaus ® Bremerhaven 8° (timetable and prices).


The idea of this complex is the following. Visitor goes forward in the building along the route which takes 2 hours. He moves along 8th meridian of east longitude, as Bremerhaven located on it.




During the visit the visitor gets to various countries and most importantly to different climatic zones. The list of countries: Switzerland, Italy, Niger, Sahara Desert, Samoa, Alaska. Everywhere you can see various videos, listen to the inhabitants of these regions, learn about environmental problems. Also there are lots of different interactive exhibits. For example in Italy there is opportunity to make your own climate in several rooms.


This a control point is located in a huge tin among the huge grass.


To open one of the doors you need to utter the following phrase. And, if you say it wrongly, the door will not open :)

The city has another unusual museum of German emigration. About 7 million Germans left the country through Bremerhaven and went to seek their fortune in the United States, Brazil and Argentina. But we were already to tired to visit it.

This time we came with our daughter and took her to Klimahaus, it's a very cool place for kids. And we walked around the city a little bit.

I remember that last time, these high-rises seemed interesting to me, but now I realize that they are interesting only for those who live in them on the upper floors and whose windows overlook the sea.


Compare with more modern harbor development.


There is a beach in the center, but it is more of a children's beach, as it is very shallow and there is often no water. But there are restaurants and a children's playground, parking is here 53.538472, 8.578944.




There is another nice playground near the beach parking lot.


Walked a little in the mall near Klimahouse.








Also took a walk in the evening, saw the city lights.












Getting there: Bremerhaven has its own small airport. The closest medium level airport is in Bremen. Major airports are in Hamburg and Hanover and one more small is in Lubeck. From all the airports Bremerhaven can be reached in less than 2 hours on the local trains, use bahn.de.
