Elizabeth Bay is one of the few places on the islands where there grow mangroves. There is no landing here only panga ride (on the boats). It's the best place we've seen to observe penguins and blue-footed boobies.
Who lives here:
- stingrays, saw several
- sea turtles, saw about a dozen
- gapalagos penguins, saw many
- blue-footed boobies, saw many
- sea lions, saw several
- herons, saw several
The place can be divided into two parts. At first we visited the bay itself. Here we saw turtles, stingrays and sea lions. After the previous days here tourists feel a little boring, as they are not used to looking for animals :)
Near the bay there are two small islands with a lot of animals. Here lives a large colony of Galapagos penguins and a lot of blue - footed boobies. There are 40000 pairs of this bird in total in the world and half live in the Galapagos.
Цвет ног имеет значение для самок, которые выбирают себе самцов с синими ногами, и игнорируют тех, у кого они серо-голубые.
On the boat you can swim very close, previous photos are taken from a distance of about one meter. Penguins which are resting on the rocks also do not pay attention to the tourists, but when they are in the water, always swim away from you.
Galapagos penguins are unique. There are about 15 species of penguins in the world and they are the second smallest. But the most curious thing is that they does not live in the Arctic regions, but on the equator.
Getting there: It is one of the farthest points on the islands, you can visit it only as part of a cruise.
