Sibenik is a small town located near Split. Known primarily because of the Cathedral of St. Jacob built in the XV century and included into UNESCO world heritage list. Cathedral was built by famous architects Juraj Dalmatinac and Nicola Fiorentinats. It is unique because built entirely of stone slabs, without the use of wooden beams and bricks.
Cathedral is surrounded by 74 sculptures.
Square in front of the cathedral is also very interesting, we have not seen similar architecture in other Croatian cities.
Old town is colorful, almost open-air museum. Croatian architecture is very similar to Italian, which is not surprising, since the architects have often traveled from Dalmatia to the Apennines and back. Many houses are built of white stone quarried on the island of Brac. White House in Washington faced with the same stone.
On a beautiful panorama of the waterfront in Sibenik is also visible fortress of St. Anne. It is located above the old town and offers excellent views.
