We visited the Dubno Castle in 2008 and 2013. This is one of the oldest castles in Ukraine, built in 1492 by Prince Constantine of Ostrog. The castle itself, interior and exterior are kept in excellent condition. For many centuries, the castle have been destroyed and rebuilt, which can be seen very well. But it was never captured.
In 1705, hetman Ivan Mazepa arrived at the Dubno Castle. Here he made a fateful decision - to support the Swedes in the war against Peter I.
In the inner yard there are two two-level palaces. Don't miss the opportunity to walk in the dungeon. Previously, a huge amount of provisions was stored here. Tunnels in the old days were leading to different parts of the city. Maybe they still exist.
In recent years, a mini-zoo and various sculptures have appeared on the castle territory.
You can climb the roof of the tower, talk about that with castle employees ($1).
Getting there: By minibus from the Kyiv train station (5-6 hours) or central bus station (7-8 hours). Although the schedule is not very convenient and the trip takes a lot of time.
