There's an interesting place 180 kilometers away from Kyiv: a canyon created by the Girskyi Tikych river. The most beautiful views are in the Buky village. The length of the canyon is about a mile, use its left bank for a walk.
Not long ago this place wasn't known to the public, and now it's a tourist attraction. At the weekend the canyon banks are full of campers, so if you visit Buky at the weekend, set off as early as possible.
Tip: The best time to visit Buky is in May and June, as in the end of summer the level of water in the river goes down.
Getting there: As part of a guided tour from Kyiv or by car. Drive in the direction of Odessa and then turn to Zhashkiv. After that drive to the turn to the Buky village, turn right and go directly to the village. The canyon is located just 200-300 meters away from the center of the village, but if you don't manage to find it, just ask (in Ukrainian the canyon name has the same pronunciation).
