Imagine that you are driving on a lonely road in the mountains, at an altitude of about 1 km above sea level and around the extremely harsh terrain, but near one of the lakes stands a lone hotel ({{27}}). The first building on this site was erected in 1870 during the construction of the road from Skjåk to Stryn and Geiranger. When the road was completed, Grotli became a transit point on the crossroads between the east and west of the country, with post office, telephone and bus station. The hotel was built in 1903-1905. For over a hundred years it's been managed by representatives of one family. Inside there are beautiful interiors and, curiously, free WiFi. Where do they get Internet in such places ? :)
There are many beautiful places for walking and fishing around the hotel, so if you stop for a few days, you'll find what to do. There's a summer ski center 19 kilometers from the hotel, which works from late May (http://www.strynsommerski.no).
In general, it's a great place to stay if you are traveling by car and want to enjoy the silence.
Getting there: The hotel is located on the road between Lom and Geiranger/Stryn.
