Barbarossa Cave (Barbarossahöhle)

Barbarossa Cave was discovered in the 19th century, but it only became accessible to tourists in the 20th century. The length of the excursion trail is about 400 metres, with part of the cave remaining closed for research and preservation of fragile minerals.

On normal days, the cave can only be visited with a tour, but throughout the year, various events take place, which can be viewed on the official website https://barbarossahoehle.de/veranstaltungen/. During such events, for example, World of Lights, when the cave is colourfully illuminated, you can walk around on your own at certain times. Well, not really on your own, as there will be many other people there, so you have to choose between a guided tour with fewer people in the cave or walking on your own with lots of other people. 

Unlike many other caves, you can take photos here without any problems. As you can see from the photos, the large number of people does not cause any particular problems.
