We arrived before the opening and it was correct (find here opening times). The fact is that about 10-15 minutes after opening, a tractor carrying food for animals is driving along a park road. Animals know about this and run up to every car that comes along.
Accordingly, if you are driving ahead of this tractor, then everything is fine. But when tractor overtakes you, all the animals lose interest in the cars of tourists.
In general it is to feed the animals, but visitors still bring some food: apples, carrots, etc. If you do not have food with you, then in one of the places there will be a stop near the elephants, there you can buy it. Do not use all on elephants, leave a little. Closer to the exit, there will be another place with zebras and giraffes where you can feed them.
All animals in the park live without fences. In addition to harmless zebras, antelopes and giraffes, there are more dangerous animals. Lions and rhinos came up to our car, you can see one of the videos here. We were lucky in this case, but there are situations when animals seriously scratch the car.
Getting there: car entrance to the park N 52 45.067 E 9 37.040. The nearest train station is Hodenhagen, use bahn.de. There is a marked walking path 3 km long from the station to the park.
