Koepenick

N 52°26.635', E 13°34.411'
2020-03-14
Our rating: 7.60
Overall rating:
At the moment Köpenick is a district of Berlin, although geographically it is quite far from the center, does not have a normal S-Bahn or U-Bahn transport connection and therefore more resembles a suburb.

It belongs to the areas with inexpensive real estate, though in Berlin, even in the cheapest areas, prices are inadequate. On the other hand, in 2022, the prices of new buildings here increased the most among all areas of the city, which means that Köpenick is developing, people want to live here, and developers want to build new housing.

By the way, the most interesting residential complex in Berlin (as of 2022) Riva Living Berlin is being built in Köpenick. We will definitely visit it to see the result.

The name Copenic was first mentioned in 1209, has Slavic roots, and means "island area". And it's true, Köpenick has the most water of any district in Berlin. Since we ourselves live on the bank of a river, we love these kinds of neighborhoods.

This is the Stichkanal with the summer houses.

The town hall (Rathaus). There is a funny story about "the Captain of Köpenick" who committed an ingenious robbery here. Read about him on wikipedia.

The heart of the district is Schloss Köpenick, located on an island. Originally, in 1558, Elector Joachim II Hector built a Renaissance hunting castle here. But the main construction took place during the reign of Elector Friedrich III of Brandenburg, who later became King Friedrich I of Prussia. From 1677 to 1684 the palace was reconstructed, the northern pavilion, the household outbuilding and the palace church were added.
