The Goethe Observation Tower was opened in 2020 and offers one of the best panoramas of Frankfurt.

It's worth saying that there has been a tower at this location before, since 1931, but in 2017 it burned down completely due to arson. The perpetrators have still not been caught, and the arson was clearly planned, as several important wooden structures for the city burned down at the same time in 2017. The motive behind all of this is unclear.

The locals loved the tower and even donated money for its speedy restoration. The new Goethe Tower cost 2.4 million euros, most of which was paid for by the insurance company, and thanks to donations from citizens and companies, the area around the tower was improved. The base area of the tower is nine by nine meters, made of chestnut from the south of France and northern Spain, as well as oak from the Black Forest - these types of wood were chosen because of their greater durability. Many steel elements have been installed to protect it from moisture, which will minimize future renovation costs.

The tower is located in a park with a large playground and restaurant. There is another large playground (50.088500, 8.721000) within walking distance, so this is a great place to visit with kids.

Admission is free, but be warned, the tower is closed in the fall and winter for safety reasons. Find the opening schedule here, currently these are: May 1 - October 31, from 8:00am until dark (maximum until 8:00pm).
