Founded in 1812, Nikitsky botanical garden is one of the first research institutions in Ukraine. Since the foundation its main task has been to help agricultural development of the southern regions. We arrived there early in the morning, as during the day there can be a lot of visitors. We walked using the map and saw all marked objects. However, it's not so interesting without a tour.
Near the fields of tulips is a green maze, where we got lost a little. The maze is small, but still it's not easy to find the correct way. I am wondering how people find an exit from huge mazes in the UK?
Two objects of the garden, arboretum and herbarium (dried plant collection) are the national heritage of the country.
Getting there: Minibus #34 from the clothing market in the center of Yalta will take you directly to the entrance to the botanical garden. Be aware that there are several entrances: upper (main) and lower ones. Since the garden is located on a slope, better enter it through the upper entrance, go down and return by minibus from the lower exit. You can also walk 2 kilometers from the Yalta - Alushta highway.
