Monte Bre mountain

Monte Bre mountain (925 m) is located on the border between Switzerland and Italy. It is considered one of the sunniest places in Switzerland. You can go up on the funicular from Lugano, find the schedule here https://www.sbb.ch/en/home.html (stations Cassarate and Monte Brè). You can also climb on foot, but this is inconvenient.

There is a small and picturesque village of Bre on the mountain, where we stayed at the Hotel Salotto Brè (booking.com). Near the hotel there is a large, free parking (N 46 00.654 E 8 59.731). From the hotel to the viewpoint is 1 km on foot or 1.5 km by car. The road is very bad, but you can drive slowly and carefully. If you want to go on foot, then the village can be reached by bus 12 from Lugano, Centro to the stop of Brè, Paese.

The viewpoint is actually a restaurant. We were there in the evening and were totally alone. There is a small parking lot near the restaurant (N 46 00.514 E 8 59.106). If you are going by car in the middle of the day, then consider the narrow road and only a dozen places at the parking lot.


Viewpoint offers a very picturesque view of Lugano, lake and the Alps. To the left is a bridge with a highway. In front of it near the water is the encamped city of Campione d'Italia. It is interesting because it belongs to Italy, but is surrounded by Switzerland from all sides.




There is also an excellent viewpoint on the village of Bre (N 46 00.588 E 8 59.487). All the mountains in the background are already in Italy.
