Horton Plains is a steppe at an altitude of more than 2 km. We started our trip from Nuwara Eliya at 5 am, as nature looks amazing here early in the morning. Note that by 10 am there will be mist on the plains. Of course it's cold in the morning, so be sure to get dressed. The plan is the following: you come by car to the local museum and buy tickets on your way. The ecotrail starts from the museum.
The length of the ecotrail is about 10 km. We went clockwise and passed it in 4 hours. In some places the path was quite difficult.
There are animals on the plains, even predators. But they keep the distance, so binoculars would be useful here. On the trail you will see two viewing platforms - Small and Big Wolrd's End. In these places, the rocks break off vertically for 330 and 1,б20 meters!
Near the river you can go down to the Baker Falls waterfall. It looks very picturesque, but the descent is not much easy.
There's a lot of different interesting plants and flowers on the plains, we made pictures almost every minute.
Getting there: You can get there by taxi from the Ohiya train station in 40 minutes (~$10). The station is located on the road from Haputale, the trip from there will take 1.5 hours (~$20). From Nuwara Eliya also 1.5 hours (~$20). The entrance fee is about $12-15.
