Sentosa Island is a unique place in Singapore. The island, which had been used only by the military until 1972, turned into one of the biggest entertainment centers in the world. About $800 million was invested during the last 40 years. The island was rebuilt many times, some attractions were replaced by others, many just disappeared. The purpose of this all was to make an "amusement park island", where everything is interconnected.
There's a huge number of different attractions on the island:
- The world's largest aquarium, which opened in late 2012
- Universal studios theme park
- Huge light-musical fountain with live show Songs of the Sea
- Old military fort Siloso
- Butterfly park
- 2 kilometers of beaches
- Summer bobsleigh track
- Huge trolley, by which you can fly from the top of the island to the beach
- A variety of attractions that are scattered around the island (free fall tower, multi-D movie theaters with large screens etc.).
- Huge statue of the Merlion with a viewing platform inside
- Rope park
- Skydiving simulator
- Rock-climbing wall
- Lots of hotels and bungalows
etc.
The island is hilly and it is quite difficult to get around here, use the signs, although they are not always useful. There are free buses, but they are often crowded and you cannot enter, consider this. There's no changing cabins on the beach. Look for toilets nearby, there will be showers and changing cabins inside.
