Hotel Colca Lodge

If you're heading to the Colca Canyon on the private transport, it makes sense to spend the night at the Colca Lodge (booking.com). It was built on the banks of the Colca River at an altitude of 3250 meters. Keep in mind that the hotel is not cheap (from 150 euros).












In addition to an extremely picturesque location, there are also hot springs. 4 small pools near the river are filled with hot volcanic water. The temperature in the pools vary from 32 to 80 degrees. In the rainy season pools may be closed, as the river overflows.

By the way, be careful and do not spend too much time in hot water. We sat for a long time and I have a headache afterwards, apparently because of the height.




If you decide to stay for more than one night, then take a walk around, there are many ancient ruins there and a zip-line over the canyon and the river. You can also organize a rafting or mountain biking.


/Getting there: The last 3 kilometers from the village of Yanque to the hotel is unpaved road, public transportation does not go there. Of course, it is better to go by car, but you can use 4M-Express bus Arequipa - Chivay (http://www.4m-express.com) and then take a taxi to the hotel. These buses run from Arequipa, Puno and Cusco. There are 4-5 bus companies that have buses from Arequipa to Chivay, but you need to visit a bus station for information.
