In summer Stavanger is full of tourists. Every day in the port stops at least one large cruise ship and thousands of people visit the city-center (area above the lake) and a small old town (red area on the map).
Stavanger maps in PDF can be downloaded here.
The center is small, it's easy to get around in 2 hours. In the old town there are few traditional Norwegian streets.
And a lot of flowers.
Breivatnet lake.
Beautiful houses around the harbor.
In residential districts many Norwegians also live in wooden houses.
After strolling in the center, we went to see the other parts of Stavanger, where tourists do not go. For example, the city has a lot of graffiti and murals. With the annual festival images are constantly being added. Here is a map of 2015 which we used.
The biggest concentration of graffiti is in a creative quarter Tou Scene.
The most interesting "exhibit" here is a huge deer.
Nearby is a new residential area of the city, you can see how modern Norwegians live.
Sport grounds are everywhere in the city.
Slide that leads into the water, where the temperature does not rise above 17 degrees in the summer months.
Even office buildings have small sport grounds.
We stayed at Comfort Hotel Stavanger (booking.com).
Stavanger is usually used to visit places of interest nearby:
Pulpit rock
Lysefjord
Monafossen waterfall
Kjerag - not visited by us yet
Getting there: From the airport to the city runs express bus (~$14.5). To save money take bus 42 (direction Sandnes) to Forus øst stop and transfer at the same bus stop to bus 3, to the center of Stavanger (with the same ticket). This trip will cost ~$6.5. Find here schedule.
