If you like mountains, then you definetely must visit the Lovcen National Park. This is one of the most beautiful places in Montenegro. The park attracts tourists because of its beautiful scenery, interesting flora and the Negushi village where two rulers of the country were born.
The main object of the park, which is visited by all tourists, is the mausoleum of Petar II Negosh, located on the top of mount Lovcen (official name is Jezerski vrh). In 1845, the last ruler and the Metropolitan expressed his wish to be buried after his death in the chapel that he had founded at the mountain top. This was done in 1855. The chapel had been destroyed during the First and Second World Wars, and in 1974 a modern mausoleum appeared. This new mausoleum preserved until our days.
There's a good road from Cetinje to the top. On the way you wil find a small cafe, kiosks with food of local farmers and a tourist center. Near the tourist center is a forest with tables and benches where you can have a rest and buy souvenirs.
There's a tiny parking place at the top that can hold no more than 10 cars, so tourist buses stop earlier and tourists have to walk uphill.
Interesting fact: At the moment (2013) preparatory works for the construction of the mega-expensive cableway Kotor - Mount Lovcen - Cetinje continue. This cableway is planned to be the longest in the world.
On this map we marked the way to the Lovcen National Park from Cetinje.
Getting there: There's no public transport to the park. There are guided tours from the main resort towns. The distance to the mausoleum from Cetinje is about 7-8 km, so you can take a taxi or go by foot. Just keep in mind that you have to go uphill.
