A small castle on the banks of the Western Dvina (Daugava), first mentioned in 1237, when it was built as the castle of Riga's Bishop Nikolai Nauen. We saw it by chance and stopped. At the time of our visit, the castle was under reconstruction, the access to park was closed, though now it is most likely completed.
The original appearance of the castle is unknown, and the first images that have reached us date back to the 18th century. In the 20th century, the castle was a hospital, a garrison, a school and even a residential building. Now it hosts the Jekabpils History Museum.
