The park was created in 1996 to protect nature on the site of a former zoo. Since 1955 there existed a station for helping animals without parents. From 1964 to 1990, the station took wolves and bears and tried to earn some money from visitors. The conditions were rather severe.

After the unification of the country (the zoo was in the GDR, near the border), the interest of visitors fell. In 1995, an attempt was made to find a new owner. At the same time, the German organization for the protection of animals was looking for a place to implement the idea of a park for bears. Two organizations met and the first aviary opened in 1997.

There are not many animals in the park, but they all have quite a lot of space and it will be increased. At the moment, the territory of the park is 7 hectares, but it is planned to expand by another 40. All the animals previously lived in difficult conditions. For example, Katya, Jimmy and Gonzo worked in a circus, and Pedro sat under the hot sun in an open cage in Spain. Almost all animals have incurable psychological trauma. Their current conditions you can see for yourself.
