The monastery was founded in 1137-1138, in the later Middle Ages it acquired considerable privileges and an important position. In the 18th century it was famous as a place of the German Rococo style. The first German savings bank was founded here.
In 1804 the family of the Margrave of Baden started to live there. In 2009 a part of the buildings was given by the margraves to the state of Baden-Württemberg.
The area is open to the public, we walked here with a baby carriage and were very pleased.
