The lighthouse was built in 1891 and was in operation until 1915, when it was extinguished during the First World War. After that, it was no longer in use, since the shipping routes changed due to sandbanks.
In 1972, the demolition of the lighthouse was planned, but the decision was changed and instead a complete reconstruction was held. The lighthouse got it's modern colors - yellow and red stripes. Now it is mainly a tourist attraction, but sometimes weddings are held here.
Near the parking lot, climb the embankment and walk along it to the lighthouse.
Getting there: parking N 53 30.050 E 7 03.073, then 500 meters on foot. The nearest bus stop is Hauen, Krummhörn, then 2.2 km on foot to the lighthouse, use bahn.de.
