In the village of Etelsen stands a small and well-preserved palace built in 1885-1887 years by brothers Heimbruch for the Danish Count Christian zu Reventlow (1845-1922). Prior to 1937 the palace was the residence and then was sold to the German Army (SA-Gruppe Nordsee). After World War II the British used it as a hospital until 1953. Then it stood empty until in 1959 a businessman from Bremen opened here restaurant and a zoo. Crypt, which stands in the park, was a home to lions :)
The interest to the zoo in a small village decreased and palace was turned first into casino. and since 1983 into the hotel. Also this is the place for exhibitions, conferences and weddings. The large park is preserved around the palace.
On the way to the train station we also saw a private mill.
Getting there: Etelsen is located on the railway line between Bremen and Hanover, use bahn.de.
