On one of the hills on the outskirts of Weimar stands colorful Belvedere Palace. It was built in 1724-1732 years and served as a residence of Duke Ernst Augustus. After the death of the Duke park and palace started to decline. In 1756-1775 the Duchess Anna Amalia made it her summer residence. Then Duke Carl August, coming to power in 1775, held here botanical research together with Goethe. Originally Palace was surrounded by a landscaped park, but until 1820 it turned into a chic botanical garden, which still exists today.
The palace originally served as a hunting lodge. It is bright and well-preserved representative of estates at that time. The place is very beautiful, easily reachable from the Weimar and therefore is recommended to visit.
On this page you can download the same map in PDF.
Inside the palace is a museum of 18th century household items, for example large collection of porcelain tableware (that's boring :). Find here opening hours of the palace and greenhouses.
