The Trinity Church is located near mount Kazbek in one of the most picturesque places of Georgia. The temple is unique, built in the XIV century and located at an altitude of 2,170 meters above sea level! It can be seen from Stepantsminda and you can go there on foot, just remember that this is hard and takes at least an hour. Go through the Gergeti village and further along the serpentine and walking trails. The church can be seen at the top, so you won't get lost.
There are taxi drivers in the center of the Stephantsminda village. They can get you to the church on the offroad cars for $15 one way.
The mountain, which is located behind the temple is Kazbek, is Georgia's highest peak (5,033 meters). From the Kazbegi village you can take photos of the church and the mountain at the same time.
We were lucky with the weather and made our best photo in Georgia near the church. Look, this is a really fantastic place.
The church is described in a poem by great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin "Kazbek Monastery", which was written in 1829, and in Lermontov's poem "The Demon".
Getting there: You need to come to the Stephantsminda (Kazbegi) village. Minibuses Tbilisi - Kazbegi go from the Okriba bus station near the Didube metro station. 3.5-4 hours to go, ticket price is $8-12. There are only few minibuses per day. Since the schedule may change, better come to the bus station before 8 am. Be sure to check the time in advance or the last return bus (usually at 5 pm). During our visit, we took several Poles into our car as they missed the last bus to Tbilisi.
