Pululahua volcano is a unique place, not only in Ecuador, but also worldwide. Standing on the observation deck at a height of about 3,300 meters, it's difficult to understand that you are looking at crater. It's diameter is about 5 kilometers, but the most interesting fact is that it is inhabited by people. Pululahua is one of the two populated craters. Volcano last time erupted in 467 AD and now is a part of the National Nature Reserve Pululahua. Entrance to the observation deck is free.
Getting there: Pretty simple way is by taxi from Mitad del Mundo ($5). Since we visited it, we decided, why not visit the volcano. Taxi will take you to the top, to the observation deck. Then you can walk down to the road and buses or ask taxi driver to wait you. Mitad del Mundo can be reached from the bus station Ofelia in Quito.
