The St. Nicholas Monastery is one of the oldest in Cyprus, it is believed that it was founded in 327. At the time of our visit (2013) it was closed for visitors, so we could just walk outside. The monastery itself is not particularly remarkable and is best known for its cats that have been living inside for quite a long time. We bought cat food and fed them :)
The road to the monastery lies on the territory of the British military base, where you cannot stop and take pictures. You will also drive near a large salt lake, where different birds (especially flamingos) spend the winter.
Getting there: There is no public transportation to the monastery. Distance from the Old Port in Limassol is about 18 km along the road. Along the coast is closer, but there's a gravel road. We went by taxi.
