We came to Velipoja accidentally. The original idea was to spend the night in Shkodra, but, after we saw the city, we realized that it was not for us. Shkodra was too "Albanian" city, with all attributes.
Velipoje may be called a budget resort. Miles of empty beaches, few tourists, fairly shallow water. Every second house in the village is a mini hotel. We just stopped at one and took a room for 18 euros per day with air conditioning and dirty bathroom.
The water is not very clean, but if you walk along the beach outside the village, it is quite clean. This applies to absolutely any beach in Albania. No security problems were noted. There are a lot of cafes on the beach. We visited them, everything was fine. I cannot recommend going here specifically for the rest, but if you are traveling around the country or to Greece, then staying here is much better than in Shkodra.
Getting there: Shkodra - Tirana highway. Go 2 km after Shkodra and turn right to Bёrdicё or Velipoja. The road is good and picturesque. Ride to the end, to the river and pine trees, then turn right. Near the central market there are minibuses that go to all major cities.
