Mykolaiv zoo is considered to be one of the best zoos in Ukraine, but to us it looked not much better than the notorious Kiev zoo. The differences are in better arranged territory and presence of such exotic animals as cangaroos. Besides, it seemed to us that the carnivores were kept in worse conditions than the herbivores. We hope that such measures for the carnivores were temporary.
There's a lot of animal scupltures near the entrance to the zoo. They are also present on the central alley as fountains, which don't work.
As in Kiev zoo, tigers and lions have outdoor "walking spaces" and a winter pavillion.
Lynxes, foxes, birds of prey and especially a crocodile are kept in terrible conditions.
Raccoons look more cheerful than other carnivores. However, still there's not enough space for such a crowd.
A hippo has the best living conditions here :)
Getting there: The zoo is right next to the Mykolaiv bus station. You will find info on how to get to Mykolaiv in our separate article about the city.
