Sedniv is a small village in the Chernihiv region. It has several interesting sites. In the center there is a map with all the places. Since 2009 Sedniv became a state reserve "Manor of Lyzogub family". Great place to walk.
The main house, which is only part of the complex, is located on the high banks of the Snov river. Since the end of the XVII century Sedniv became the estate of the family that has played a significant role in the history and culture of Ukraine. Chernigov Colonel Yakov Lyzogub was the first who settled here. Known members of the family were brothers Andrew and Ilya Lyzogub who settled in Sedniv in 1830. They were creative people met in Sedniv many prominent figures of the time, such as Taras Shevchenko and Leonid Glibov.
Among family of Lyzogub were head of the Ukrainian government in 1918 Fyodor and even the founder of the terrorist organization Dmytro, who was executed in Odessa for the preparation of the assassination of Tsar Alexander II.
Local school for 450 children formerly housed in the estate. Now, the school moved to a new building.
There is a large park around the estate.
The most beautiful place in the park, it's a gazebo over the river, where famous Ukrainian writer Leonid Glibov loved to rest.
On the monument he is similar to some American businessman :)
There is a tree surrounded by fence on the territory of the park, next to a monument to Taras Shevchenko. This was 600-year-old "linden of Shevchenko". The most famous ukrainian poet rested here during a visit to Lyzogub family. Unfortunately tree fell in the 2000s.
The second part of the sites is located right near the center of the village. The most interesting object here is old Wooden church of St. George. It was built in 1715 - 1742 years and rebuilt in 1852. Here filmed the the final scenes of the movie "Viy" (1967) by Nikolai Gogol. It's a famous soviet movie, the only horror in the USSR.
Not far from the church there is also a building which called Kamyanitsa of Lyzogub. This is the oldest building on the left-bank Ukraine (eastern part). Was built in 1690, the tower was added in the 19th century. In the basement Lyzogub family had their arsenal and archive.
This buiding, as well as other objects of Sedniv, were painted by Taras Shevchenko dirung his visits in 1946 and 1947.
Curiously, but Sedniv, a village with 1300 inhabitants, since 2013 has a new modern school, which looks like a palace. Of course, it is not the school for only one village.
Getting there: there is a regular bus connection to Sedniv from Chernigov bus station, which is located near the railway station. You need to stop near the big pointer to the estate of Lyzogub family (it's in english).
